Internship · Hybrid, three days a week in the office · Eastroom on Claremont St, Toronto

Is this the role for you?

  • Do you have a voracious appetite for learning and driving real results?
  • Enjoy working closely with a high-intensity founding team?
  • Are you looking for a role that provides outsized responsibility – and be critical to success?
  • Can you handle aggressive amounts of ambiguity?
  • Do you want to work in an environment with A+ people only?
  • Do you have the confidence that you’ll succeed in the role, given the incredibly high-expectations?

Culture

We treat your time as the scarce asset that it is. We respect people being heads-down and having the time to get into a flow. Distractions and context switching are things we work to minimize. We have meetings for specific purposes, and leverage async channels when appropriate.

Mash has an open and direct culture. We believe that not making a decision is a decision – and a terrible one at that. We have strong conviction and a bias for action. We can agree to disagree, and move forward after reviewing the details. As we learn, we will reevaluate, iterate and push forward.

About Mash

We’re a dynamic team with experience at startups, and scaling products at big tech including Google, Amazon, Ada, D2L, CourseHero, Rakuten, Dayforce, PagerDuty, ROSS Intelligence & Lazer. We have top AI staff, including from programs such as MScAC, and advisors that have built startups and led some of the largest organizations in big-tech over the past 15 years.

We don’t use any seniority titles, and plan not to for as long as feasibly possible (learn more about why).

Mash investors include Whitecap Venture Partners, Castle Island Ventures, Maple VC, Strategic Cyber Ventures, Aquanow, Spacecadet, and angel investors including Sunny Madra (formerly Groq, now NVIDIA), Balaji Srinivasan (former CTO of Coinbase, author of The Network State), Austin Hill (co-founder of Zero-Knowledge Systems and Blockstream), Josh Troy (multi-startup CFO/co-founder, including Urbint) and John Pfeffer (former partner at KKR, co-founder of Pfeffer Capital).

Experience & expectations

  • Experience launching and scaling prosumer, consumer or PLG software products.
  • Have strong user empathy, and a user experience first mindset.
  • You respond well to open-ended problems, thrive on autonomy, and are a self-starting problem solver.
  • You are curious. Act with high-agency, are biased to launch/action. Have a passion for lifelong learning.
  • Excel in team environments and are focused on team goals.
  • Have great communication skills.
  • You have 2+ years of demonstrated success in a demanding, high-paced environment with multi-disciplinary responsibilities at a startup or high growth technology company.
  • Bonus: you’ve built products, or have side-hustles/hobbies that you’re proud to share.

Role & responsibilities

You will be working directly with the founding team to help accelerate the business.

Startups change fast – and promising what the priorities/projects will be 3 months early would be disingenuous. We might start working on it in two weeks, or it may be de-prioritized based on what we learn. You’ll get your hands dirty, and ship real work every week that launches. Expect to own a few of the areas below.

  • Product & feature launches. Mash ships constantly. Turn each new feature into a story through demo videos, short-form clips, launch posts and in-app announcements. Build momentum. Then keep finding fresh angles to put it in front of people long after release day.
  • Build our content and search engine (SEO and AEO). Create the guides, use-case pages, comparisons and playbooks that rank in search and get cited by AI assistants – and tell the story. Learn the questions our users are asking and make sure Mash is the answer, whether they’re searching on Google, asking an AI – and occasionally directly in the product.
  • Own our voice with users. Write the newsletter, the changelog, product updates and social posts. Keep users in the loop and give them reasons to come back.
  • Build and run our product council. Recruit our most engaged users, bring them into features before release, and show them what changed because of their input. Turn their experiences into stories and testimonials.
  • Test the product like a user. Use Mash daily on iOS, desktop and web. Pressure-test new features before they ship, run quick usability sessions, and turn what you find into clear, prioritized feedback.
  • Build the growth dashboard and run experiments. Instrument our funnel from first visit to retained user, report on it weekly, and run onboarding and lifecycle experiments against the biggest drop-offs. Tons of opportunities to go really deep here.
  • Help shape pricing and general business model decisions. Benchmark the market, design packaging options, and help launch live pricing experiments.
  • Launch creator and partner pilots. Find, pitch and launch partnerships with creators, communities and complementary tools, and track which ones are worth scaling.
